June 24: New Identity

I went to get my California drivers license today. When the (very kind) lady punched a hole in my Washington, D.C ID, she made a joke about how thick the DC license is ("but not as thick as Arizona's!").

I stood there feeling strange about my new identity as a Californian. At a party last weekend, I chatted with a fellow recent DC transplant - he asked if I missed it. "I miss DC every single day," I said immediately and without reservation. He looked surprised (most people do when I say that). "Really? Do you think you made a mistake?" he asked. "No, I'm happy to be here," I said. "But I've missed it every single day since I've left."
